This blog is intended to engage its readers in dialogue on social and urban policy issues.  Enjoy!

My first series of posts have surrounded a historical perspective of Detroit over the past half century.  Spiced between the more academic posts, I try to mix things up with some narratives and posts on other topics.

Starting October 2010, I will begin my second series of posts, dedicated to hot-topic issues and policy debates within the field of U.S. immigration law and procedure.

Check out the Fall 2009 issue of The Modern American to read my article on the historiography of urban centers.

For those of you committed to seeing labor reform in the U.S. immigration system, take a look at Picked Apart, a piece I co-authored and for which I conducted research at the Washington College of Law.
